Most of our anxiety about time comes from living as if we were immortal—as if we could postpone what matters indefinitely, always preparing for a future when we’ll finally have time for what’s important. The limit-embracing life invites us to live as mortals instead: to recognize that this day, this week, this year is part of the small and precious allotment we have, and to treat it accordingly.

This doesn’t mean living with morbid obsession about death. It means letting the reality of your limitations inform your choices. It means asking, with genuine curiosity and without self-judgment: Given that I have only about four thousand weeks on this earth, how do I want to spend this particular week? What deserves my finite attention? What can I let go of?
